Hi everyone, just a note to say that I am back and abnormal service will be resumed shortly. I have been rather absent for the last month or so for two main reasons.
Primarily because our power line got hit by lighting which fried amongst other things our Livebox. Unfortunately it all so fried everyone else’s Livebox as well, unsurprisingly there was a Livebox famine, couple that with Orange fuck ups which you can read about in Julies Blog – julie in loire it took a few weeks to get sorted.
Secondly I have been just to bloody busy
but I am looking forward to some time off in August.
What is new on the gourmet front? A few bits and pieces.
The elderflower champagne was ready but was foul
it happens! I am of course blaming Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall for that one, simply on the grounds that I am so deluded I think I’m perfect. Never mind back to the original recipe next year.
I’ve made some more sausages, and am now getting orders from friends, I gave some to my butcher the other day, so his opinion will be the real test.
Speaking of my butcher, I have started using a new fruit, veg and butchers in Loches – Halles et Champ local produce at good prices. The butcher is exceptional, a French Canadian who personally selects his animals for slaughter and provides an great service, one to nurture.
Currently I’m at the start of the summer glut. I’m currently searching for recipes to dispose of 8 cucumbers before the rest are ready! Tomatoes are coming soon, I’ll write about that when they are ready. Got most of the potatoes in, a decent crop this year despite the Colorado Beetle (bastards). Broad beans where the usual disaster (black fly).
Sirop du Cerise, and Sirop du Framboise are ready for decanting, I’ll post a how to on that soon.
Other than that life goes on. I have some friends coming for dinner on Saturday. They recently got married after 25 years and a couple of grown kids. I promised to cook something special so watch this space to see if I produce something fit for a marriage feast or just fit for a one night stand.
